Micah P. Hinson – Take Off That Dress For Me

Texas troubadour Micah P. Hinson’s plaintive love song stays in your head long after its two minutes are over.

Sometimes, when a song is good enough, it only needs to be two minutes long. That’s the way it was with Phil Spector and that’s the way it is with this song by Micah P. Hinson.

It’s so simple, so tuneful, so effective a love song. Once heard, it stays in your head for the rest of the day.

Hinson has quite the back story: born into a strict fundamentalist Christian family in Memphis, he moved to Texas in his teens and began to experiment with music – and narcotics.

Jail time, addiction, homelessness and bankruptcy all followed before he reached the age of 20. But he fell in with local band The Earlies and they backed him on his debut album in 2003, filled with winsome tales of love, loss and regret.

This comes from his fourth album, Micah P. Hinson & The Pioneer Saboteurs, released in 2010. The following year he was involved in a near-fatal car crash when his tour bus overturned in Catalonia, but recovered and is still releasing dark and intensely personal records.

Fun fact: Hinson proposed to his girlfriend Ashley after a concert at the Union Chapel in 2007. They married a year later and had three children. Now divorced, he divides his time between his home in Madrid and hers in Texas.

He’s a bit of an oddball, as you can see in this video:
